12th Annual Respite and Crisis Nurseries Conference
of the ARCH National Respite Network
September 24-25, 2009
Burbank, CA

The Conference
This year, the California Respite Association (CRA) had the honor of hosting the 12th Annual Respite and Crisis Nurseries Conference. Bay Respite Care's Director, Mike Huckins, is also president of the CRA and so BRC had a helping hand in putting on the conference. It was held at The Pickwick Gardens Conference Center in Burbank, CA. The Conference Hotel was The Holiday Inn Burbank-Media Center. Our theme was "Route 66: The Respite Highway That's The Best". We hope all the attendees enjoyed themselves and came away having made important network connections and a better understanding of what's going on in today's world of respite.

The Awards Dinner
On Thursday, September 24, Bay Respite Care sponsored the Awards Ceremony and Dinner at The Holiday Inn Burbank-Media Center. Mike Huckins and Leo Landeverde were the Emcee's at the Academy Award's style dinner. Respite Care Provider Sarah Wiggins dressed up as Tippi Hedren from The Birds and took pictures of all the Award Winners. People enjoyed various movie clips, pictures with the Autograph Hound, and gift boxes filled with goodies like Jelly Bellies, poppers, and fortune cookies. Everyone also received a Dinner Program which contained a complete list of Award Winners and their presenters.
The Summit Meeting
Thanks to generous donations from the Jacob and Valeria Langeloth Foundation, National Certified Insurance, the California Respite Association, ARCH, and the National Respite Coalition we were able to hold the California Lifespan Respite Summit on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Holiday Inn Burbank-Media Center. Possible stakeholders from California and other interested people from throughout the country came to hear Jill Kagan present on National Lifespan Respite funding. The second half of the day was spent in breakout groups. For a summary of the breakout groups' work, click here.
